Incredibly proud of our own Ed Whiffin, OR and work colleague, who finished the #londonmarathon2017 for the Reed's School Foundation in a fabulous time, despite a dodgy foot.

The return of Throwback Thursday! As this weekend saw the start of the cricket season, we thought you might like this little montage of Reed's teams through the years. These, plus more photos, publications and articles can be found on our Reed's Heritage site: www.reedsschoolheritage.co.uk. You'll spot that the photo at the bottom is not one of a team, but rather our new, high-tech indoor cricket centre that is under construction - everyone welcome to see and support it:

Yesterday was a real family day at Reed's ... as we welcomed back some of our 1997 leavers to celebrate their '20 Years On', and held a christening of an OR's son!
To coincide with a trip over from the US by Mark Russell and his family, we managed to bring together Nick ShillinglawIngo NyakairuNick HearleDavid BellGeraint SteerRob BakewellJorrit SchrauwersCraig Wilson and Luke O'Donoghue with their partners and children for a lovely afternoon of reminsicing and catching up. We took a nostalgic walk around the grounds, making a special visit to the Close (where it all started) and some of the classrooms, especially the Biology lab named after Mr Hearle! This was all followed by a delicious cream tea and a browse of the Reed's Heritage site (www.reedsschoolheritage.co.uk) where we found some hilarious pictures and mentions of the chaps. We hope to do this again soon, hopefully with a few others who sadly couldn't make it.
It was also wonderful to see at School James Davey with his wife and family celebrating the christening of baby George, after the service conducted by the Reed's Chaplain, Andrew Winter.
A very special Sunday afternoon on a beautiful spring day at Reed's.

At the end of last week, we held our annual OR Stephen Shiells Hockey competition with two tough fought matches: the School 1st XI and a Staff XI playing against a great group of ORs from across several decades! The end result was that the ORs lost in both matches but by only one goal in each; the important thing was that everyone had fun. This was followed by the obligatory curry supper in the Societies Room, where we bid a fond farewell to our Deputy Head, Graham Spawforth (off to become a Head at Ditcham Park), and presented him with his official Old Reedonian tie. Thank you to everyone who came along to play and support. See you same time next year!

We are totally lost for words. Last night's Andrew Reed Lecture at Reed's School delivered by the legend that is our OR - Alex van Holk - was incredibly open, moving and inspirational. Every guest felt privileged to be there and able to share Alex's journey, each taking away something from his wise words. To make the evening more poignant, we were delighted to be joined by his parents, Elske Van Holk, Bart and youngest sister Tjalline; it was evident from Alex's talk that his resilience not only came from within, but also from knowing he had the support of them and the community around him. This sense of community is what Reed's is all about, evidenced by the many friends who joined us on the night. To end on a quote from Alex would seem appropriate: "Live up to the values of the School, use them to embrace life and enjoy the ride!" (http://www.reeds.surrey.sch.uk/values)

Not so much Throwback Thursday as Together Forever Thursday!
They may be separated by around 60 years, but it's great to see that Reed's friendships stand the test of time. Two recent Christmas lunches: one with ORs from the 1940s and the other from the 2000s - am sure the banter was similar at both though! Happy Christmas gents!

At 11 o'clock everyone at Reed's School  observed a two minute silence to remember the service men and women who gave their lives in the service of their country in the two world wars. In particular, respects were paid to the 185 Old Reedonians who died in these conflicts, the faces of eight of whom are shown in this picture (clockwise from top left: Frank Jackman, Donald Bruty, Allan Ninnis, Alfred Mantle, Noel Eldridge, Richard Hazell, Lauriston Bell, George Stribling). Everyone entered into the spirit of the evening with some great costumes, singing and dancing.
Huge thanks go to OR Charlotte Mocatta, for her drive and determination in getting this fundraiser off the ground which will go support the Simon Church & Jonathan Turner Bursary Fund in memory of Charlotte's brother and friend who were tragically killed in a motorcycle accident just after leaving Reed's.

Quite rightly, Alex featured in Ben Edward's Assembly speech as a shining example to the pupils of independence and resilience. Huge congratulations from us all.
