Sustaining the Legacy

How you can help

To sustain the legacy of the Foundation and support disadvantaged children for another 200 years, all our supporters and friends need to be aware of the gap between the cost of financing our charitable work and the voluntary income needed to sustain this work.  We also need to continue to advance the excellent educational opportunities that we provide to all our pupils.

To fulfil these objectives and lessen this funding gap, we encourage you – in this Bicentenary Year - to:

  • make a bequest to the Andrew Reed Growth Fund and help us create a £20 million endowment to sustain the Foundation; and
  • contribute to our Build Our Future campaign, an unrestricted Fund in support of capital development.

It is possible to do both and we hope that many will.  These initiatives are in addition to our other long established means of supporting the Foundation (click here to view these other funds >>>).

The Andrew Reed Growth Fund

A legacy gift to the Andrew Reed School Growth Fund presents an opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the future of the School.  This endowment fund aims to secure the longevity of the Foundation and to ensure continued support of scholarships and bursaries for means-tested and deserving Foundation pupils in the future.

Our financial target is to build an endowment of £20 million from which only the interest will be used to support the Foundation.  We have already received pledges for nearly £2 million which will be attributed to this Fund, but it will require every parent and every former pupil who has benefited from Andrew Reed’s legacy to consider making a bequest in order for us to meet our target.

With the aim of ensuring that at least 10% of our pupil in-take is Foundation based, the development of the Andrew Reed Growth Fund is central to the perpetuity of our charitable ethos.

Build Our Future

Our capital development programme aims to keep every aspect of School life, as delivered to all pupils, up-to-date, relevant and inspiring.  From projected income, the School will contribute to capital projects to develop further our academic, cultural and sporting facilities in order to keep us as one of the highest performing schools in the country.   However, we also need external support to sustain the legacy of caring for all, setting high standards, and providing new and exciting opportunities.  The “Build Our Future” fund is aimed at supporting this programme.

In 2011/12, the FutureTech project was the focus.  Our Bicentenary year allows us to take a longer term view and those projects likely to be considered include the following:

1.    Academic Capital Projects
The continued development of new classrooms and science laboratories; the rebuilding of the old Design & Technology area.

2.    Cultural Capital Projects
A Performing Arts facility replacing the existing Hall and using the piazza space released by the re-routing of the School drive.

3.    Sporting Capital Projects
Indoor Cricket facilities; a Sports Pavilion; a new astroturf; a new Sports Hall.

We hope donors will support by giving to the overall Build Our Future campaign or, if preferred, specifically to one of the three areas mentioned above.
